Where has SMD been?!: Barron & J Fall Look Book Exclusive!
In the meantime of me updating and working on my beloved Style Me Daily and the new direction I will be taking my blog, I have kept myself busy working, networking, and getting as much experience as I possibly can before I graduate (Friday May 13, 2011 by the way! Whoo hoo!)
I landed an internship with The Fashionistas, which is a non-profit organization in Dallas, whose main efforts goes towards raising money for various fashion causes including fashion scholarships for design students. They also support emerging designers, and provide opportunities to mingle with Dallas's fashion elite!
I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm their Events Intern and support the events they do (basically PR work). I'll try and blog more about my experiences and things that I'm learning along the way...and give updates of events that they have!
Also, I recently put on my second fashion show for my sorority (Delta Sigma Theta). My chapter organizes a fashion show each year in efforts to raise money for charity! I have been chair for the past two years and this year I was especially proud of the outcome because it surpassed my expectations! I think that it was a great event overall and definitely a learning experience for me to grow as a fashion stylists.
Another exciting thing!.. I was recently invited by a friend of mine (Victoria), to assist on the shoot of fashion designer, James Martinez. He's the designer of the sleek and edgy line, Barron & J. I loved his aesthetic! TOTAL glam-edge! (glam + edge = glam-edge....and yes I just made that up just now...lol).
He did a great job of mixing some fun colors and fabrics with the subtlety of sweet pastels. You could also tell that he had a great eye for detail and always added a personal touch in each of his pieces (including zippers in his designs seems to be his thing and I loved it! I remember doing a trend report on zippers once! they always add that little edge to a garment!)
He was so cool for allowing us students to come in and assist in the shoot. He also took time to teach us techniques that he uses. He taught us how to do a "fake hem" with out any of the pins showing! May seem minor but in fashion minor details are mah-jor! (as said in my Rachel Zoe voice! lol). I really enjoyed the shoot, and got to meet some really cool people. You should check his website out here! And be sure to look out for his new fall line!
