Confessions of a Styling Assistant....SAG Film "Blissful Lies"

Today was a pretty good day (well yesterday because its 1:36am right now...lol)...I almost didn't get out of bed this morning (yesterday)...but im glad I did!

I, along with two other girls, got a chance to go through the script (called Blissful Lies) and pick out the looks for the five main characters. Well, that was our goal, but there are 70 scenes in this film...we only made it through 8...after 6 hours! I mean there is so much work that goes into it. For example, there may be several characters in one scene, in which you have to plan the outfit, makeup, hair, and accessories. But! Keep in mind some characters may be in 20 plus scenes. (the lead part is in about 50 scenes!) Then, you have to cut inspiration pictures out of magazines to make look boards for the makeup and hairstylists!

I know! That's what I'm thinking too...it seems to me to be a daunting task. I asked Fanitsa (owner of RR) when it had to be completed and she says to me casually, "Oh, I'll have it done by tommorow..." And that my good people is exactly why she's the professional and I'm the assistant! LOL. But, she explained that this was our first time doing something of this magnitude, she was proud of the progress we made (even as minimal as it was). Still, it blows my mind the amount of work that goes into styling for a movie. I guess I hadn't realize the amount of detail. Can you imagine the amount of work that went into a movie such as Dream Girls...or Avatar...my gosh!...mind blowing huh?!

Costume designer Sharen Davis at The Motion Picture Costume Co. in Burbank, Calif., on Dec. 14, 2006

Sharen Davis, costume designer of Dream Girls (2006), deserved every bit of that Oscar she received for her re-creation of the iconic looks for the theater to film adaptation. Read more!

But, choosing the image of the characters was so fun!...just to know that the person in the movie looks the way he/she does because YOU decided so...I love it!. And it was fun reading through the script (this film is so juicy!..everyone has some sort of secret their hiding!) As the actors and actresses came in today for fittings me and the girls we're like "Ooo there goes Jackson's mama!" LOL...just matching characters to faces (while knowing the story behind the characters) was so funny!

Oh! and I forgot to mention more exciting news...Fanitsa put me in charge of her group (the assistants got split up into groups for when we start shooting on set) Each group is in charge of dressing different characters of the film. I'm excited and I hope I do a good job because being that Fanitsa is the owner, she has the most responsibility, and the most characters to dress! So hopefully I won't let her down! (please pray for me...like right now...on your knees...tonight! LOL)

Coming up, Tuesday (later today of course) and Wednesday are the shopping days at stores and boutiques! Hopefully I get contacted to go on some of the appointments! I'll be checking my email like a crazy person in the morning (well a few hours from now... *note to self, writing as this hour is confusing*...lol)

But, I'm now,at 2:05am, EXHAUSTED...MUST.GET.SLEEP. Can't wait to see what experiences tomorrow holds...

Stay tuned...xoxo

Confessions of a Styling Assistant....

SMD,

So I have some exciting news!...I recently got confirmation that I will be an assisting with Runway Ready (a styling company in Dallas) for a SAG signature film. They are the sole styling company of the film and I get to be apart of it!...I'm really excited. This is my first real experience being apart of a styling company, especially of this caliber, so I'm happy that I get to really get a feel for styling and being on set.

Ultimate Panic Attack..

Today was the first meeting. I had been so excited ever since I got word that I was going to be assisting with the project. But, I got a new job (sales associate at Macy's)...so I was scheduled to work today. I didn't get off until 3p and the meeting was at 4p..BUT..way in Lewsville (40 minutes from my job)...

I dashed out of the store...quickly changed in the back of my car (my work attire just wasn't up to par for a FASHION meeting...of course)...LOL..I even changed my hair...

So, anyway, I finally got dressed...clothes on...new hair in...makeup retouched...and was on my way...until...I.GOT.LOST. Yes! I got lost, on one of the most important days for me, something I have been looking forward to for days, and I got lost on the way. I was horrified. Worried. Frustrated beyond belief! I didn't even know if they would still let me participate (and I hate being the girl who walks in late...eyes staring at you...ugh) but finally I found my way...I made it! (20 minutes fashionably late...lol)

Final Destination...

I walk in. And...was greeted with smiles from the girls. Once I got there everyone was really cool. Fanitsa (the owner of RR) didn't even lash out at me (for some reason I pictured Kelly Cutrone, from Peoples Revolution, while I was driving...biting my head off...thus my fear). But, Fanitsa and her team were sweet and understanding of everyone's schedule. Everyone seemed easy going and happy, which fits my personality perfectly. We went over details about the shoot which will last an entire month! YAY!

I couldn't be more excited to work on this project and share my journey with you. Whether your into fashion or could just really give a hoot about this season's "shade of peach" this still should be a fun ride. I'm excited to learn and grow as a stylist and have lot's of memorable experiences along the way!...

Stay tuned... :-D
